Background

Alex Cunningham manages a busy career as a Communications and Public Relations Consultant alongside several public service roles all related to his position as Cabinet Member for Children and Young People encompassing education and social care with Stockton on Tees Borough Council. Alex is the founding Chair of the Children's Trust responsible for local authority and NHS services to young people in his Borough.

He is a member of Arts Council England North East and has chaired the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council NE for more than four years and serves on the National MLA Council.

He is a media professional and as well as dealing with the media in both his roles, also trains others in media techniques with a particular emphasis on crisis management. Education, formal and informal, is however his passion and sees it as the regenerative tool to develop people and communities into the future.

Alex and Evaline celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary earlier this year and have two adult sons, John and Andrew.
