Better Support for Victims of Crime
Issue- National Victims' Service
Key points
- The new National Victims' Service will make sure that punishment and reform for offenders is combined with better support for victims at the heart of everything we do. For the first time, every victim of crime or ASB reported to the police will get 7 day a week help, and will be given a named, dedicated support worker to give them emotional and practical support - for example with security or childcare.
- Under Labour, crime has fallen by a third and there are record police numbers, a neighbourhood police team in every area, longer prison sentences for serious offenders and tough Community Payback for those who don't go to prison. The Tories have campaigned against CCTV and would weaken the DNA database - making it harder for the Police to use DNA evidence to catch and convict criminals.
