High Standards In Schools

Issue

  • The Prime Minister and Schools Secretary Ed Balls today name the first wave of education providers to become Accredited School Groups today.

Key points

  • We will drive further improvements in schools through our guarantees to parents, including 1-to-1 catch-up tuition for children who need it. And the best school leaders, as well as universities and colleges, will be able to lead chains of schools.

  • The Prime Minister and Ed Balls today announce the first wave of education providers to be accredited as having a proven track record of delivering high standards.

  • Where a significant group of parents say they are dissatisfied with their school leadership, the local authority will have to ballot all parents of that school on whether they want to bring in one of the newly accredited, proven and trusted school providers.

  • This approach will also be extended to primary schools - so that all schools are able to benefit whatever the age of the pupils.

  • The Tories refuse to back our guarantees to young people and their Swedish school reforms would be costly and harm standards. They would allow schools to be built in rented office blocks and they propose removing expectations on schools' facilities, curriculum and teacher training.
